What is your most exciting mentorship experience?

“I am privileged enough to have excellent supervisors and mentors. The most exciting part of working with Scientists who are excellent in their fields is that it pushes you to always be in you’re A-game and constantly strive to do an excellent job. The way that I was mentored, along with all the skills and knowledge they have imparted on me has shaped the way I am, and where I am, right now as a researcher and as a scientist.”

Why did you join SIDHI?

“Working with a research institution in the Philippines allowed me to serve as mentor to various students – both high school and college, with the conduct of their research and internships. I find it fulfilling to help them navigate through their research, and I also feel accomplished when they finish and present their research. Now that I am literally thousand miles away from home, SIDHI has provided me an avenue to continue helping young Filipino Scientists with their pursuit of science. Through SIDHI’s mentoring program, I hope to inspire more Filipino high school researchers continue towards the path of science.”

What piece of advice can you give to an aspiring young Filipino Scientist?

“Never stop believing in yourself. Never doubt your capabilities. You are still young with a lot of energy and a lot of innovative ideas. Harness that to continue moving forward towards achieving your goals.”

What is your hope for the future of Science in the Philippines, and Science as a whole?

“I envision a Philippines where Science is celebrated, supported, and encouraged. I hope that more Filipinos will see the worth of being in science as a career – not something to be frowned up, not something to be shamed for. I hope that someday, more people will realize the power science and technology holds in reshaping and improving society, and the world.”
